International internship

“The decisions we make today will shape our actions tomorrow. In order to weave a new future, we must reflect upon our past.”

During my two-week internship in Japan, we focused on textile innovations and circular wool production. Our project showcased a draped net made from organic wool, ribbon, and single-use plastics, symbolizing the impact of fast fashion and non-biodegradable materials. To highlight the connection between the garment and viewers' own clothing, I created a tag using canvas and painter markers, designed to resemble washing instructions. Titled “Greenwashing Instructions,” the tag uses symbols related to environmental issues to reveal the problem, encouraging viewers to read closely to grasp the full extent of the issue.

“Building our work was about weaving together innovation and awareness, crafting not just a physical piece, but a narrative that challenges perspectives and inspires change.”

As part of the internship project, we created a video journal documenting our process and findings. The video captures our team’s exploration of textile innovations and circular wool production, highlighting our interactions with industry professionals in Japan. It also includes footage of the creation and installation of our exhibit, showcasing the draped net and the design of the “Greenwashing Instructions” tag. The journal provides insight into our project's development, the challenges we faced, and the broader implications of our work on the textile industry.
